The U.S. government launches $1 billion conservation program

U.S. President Biden has launched a new program aiming to conserve 30 percent of the U.S. land and water with a budget of $1 billion by 2030, according to Yale E360

The program is called America the Beautiful Challenge. It brings together representatives from states, tribes, territories, non-governmental organizations, and others and invites them to apply for conservation and restoration projects around the country. Biden stated that the goal of this program is to our lands and waters while combating climate change and biodiversity loss at the same time.

Within the first five years since the program’s launch, almost half of the budget will be backed by federal funds. In addition, the program plans to ask the private sector for a contribution to meet the full budget of $1 billion.
