Context Institute is a U.S.-based nonprofit that is devoted to helping humanity evolve and face the environmental, social, economic and personal struggles associated with the present and future.
Context Institute believes that the world is going through a process of cultural change that is as profound as the shift that occurred over 5000 years ago, out of hunting and gathering and into agriculture and cities. They refer to that previous shift as going from the Tribal Era to the Empire Era and the current shift as the transition between the Empire Era and the Planetary Era.
Context Institute recognizes the dangers of our current moment, while understanding that the underlying momentum of change is so great, that these times also serve as an immense opportunity to develop humane and sustainable cultures for the Planetary Era, cultures that could provide a greatly improved quality of life for all. Rather than addressing our issues from the context of the waning Empire Era, they address the issues of our time from the context of the emerging Planetary Era, which allows them to integrate the full scope of humanity’s concerns into a long-term and all-encompassing perspective.
One way Context Institute is able to promote lasting cultural change is by working with cultural leaders, both those in positions of institutional power and those who are influential through their own initiative. Context Institute directs its work towards those who are willing and able to help move their organizations, their communities, their personal lives, and their societies in a more humane and sustainable direction. Their experience has shown them that the most effective way to promote lasting cultural change is to educate and empower cultural leaders who then influence the rest of society. Context Institute helps assist these leaders through Bright Future Now, the program developed by Context Institute founder, Dr. Robert Gilman, that provides leaders with the frameworks, skills, experiences and community necessary for positive change.
