The E.U. to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars starting in 2035

The European Union has a goal to limit 55 percent of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and 100 percent of carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles by 2035. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, the European Parliament voted to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars in 2035, according to Optimist Daily.

This vote will not force owners of old gas-powered vehicles to give up their cars. Instead, it will require manufacturers to develop and sell more climate-friendly vehicles. In concert with increased taxes for gas and diesel, consumers will have a much stronger incentive to move toward EVs.

This vote highlights the urgency that states feel towards vehicle carbon dioxide emissions. Hopefully, countries outside the E.U. will soon follow suit.
