On January 9th, 2022, Mj Rodriguez won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama for her role as Blanca Evangelista in Pose. The achievement made her the first out trans person to win a Golden Globe. She celebrated by going live on Instagram, and she dedicated her win to the “LGBTQAI, Black, Latina, Asian, the many multi beautiful colors of the rainbow around the freakin’ world.”

According to LGBTQ Nation, the Golden Globes were not broadcast on NBC, however the event was still held, and Rodriguez was given the platform where she was able to speak about her achievements while also thanking the community that she worked with. Through this accomplishment, she was able to highlight being a person of color and being in the trans/queer community as a huge aspect of Pose and how this recognition will encourage others to “reach the stars!!!”

This is a huge step forward for the entertainment industry and a big win for the LGBTQIA+, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and many other communities. This recognition will in turn help younger generations understand that they can be successful and achieve their goal as they see more diversity throughout the media.
